23 Jun 🎣 May–June in Islamorada: Big Fish, Big Dreams
As the waters warm and the winds soften, May and June awaken the apex of angling in Islamorada—the Sportfishing Capital of the World. Here, every sunrise over the Atlantic is an invitation to chase legends.
🌊 What’s Biting?
Tarpon—the mighty Silver Kings—migrate through the bridges and flats. These giants leap, twist, and defy gravity, offering anglers the fight of a lifetime. Catch and release only, but the thrill is eternal.
Mahi-Mahi flood the offshore weed lines, flashing their neon blues and greens. These pelagic acrobats are as beautiful as they are aggressive. Minimum fork length: 20″. Limit: 5 per angler, 30 per vessel.
Blackfin Tuna and Wahoo roam the deeper drop-offs, striking hard and running deep. Tuna bag limit: 2 per person or 10 per boat. Wahoo: 2 per angler.
Permit gather on the wrecks and flats. Elusive and strong, they test skill and patience. Reminder: April 1–July 31 is closed season within the Special Permit Zone, but you can still target them outside the zone (limit: 2 per person, 1 over 22″).
Snapper and Grouper light up the reef bite. Grouper season reopens May 1—minimum 24” for gag or black, and only 1 allowed per angler. Snapper, especially Yellowtail and Mangrove, are steady and reliable all through June.
